The climate in Mallorca
The cycling season in Mallorca begins early in the year: at the end of January, the almond blossoms bathe the island in a sea of blue and make cycling an experience. The pleasant climate attracts touring cyclists, racing cyclists and mountain bikers on their bikes until November and December. Spring, autumn and winter are particularly recommended for a cycling holiday. The temperatures are a pleasant 17 to 23 °C. In midsummer, carrying out longer tours is a little more difficult: the intense heat - the average temperature is 27 to 30 °C - can easily make cycling at lunchtime too strenuous. However, if you start early in the morning and take a longer siesta, you can also enjoy cycling during this time.
Even in September it can still be very hot. However, this month you also have to expect a sudden cold snap, the “Gota Fría”. It comes with thunderstorms and storms, and the bike may then have to remain unused for a few days. However, all year round, rain on Mallorca is rarely comparable to the rainy days we know from Germany. It usually rains heavily and briefly, and the sun comes out quickly. Even in winter there are rarely more than seven rainy days per month. Mild weather periods in October, November and December are ideal for cycling. However, it can get cold at this time of year. The snow that falls in the Sierra de Traumuntana doesn't last long, but you should always have a jacket with you during these months.
After the almond blossom begins at the end of January, February and March already attract warm sunshine and the days are sufficiently long. This is the time when the professional racing cyclists start their cycling season with training on the island. The spring months are beautiful, when the green of the meadows and fields, the trees and grasses are fresh and the streets and paths of the island are not as dusty as they are at the end of July and August, when summer has the island firmly in its grip.
Mallorca offers ideal conditions for cyclists in almost every season, but you shouldn't plan too long tours in midsummer because of the heat. March to May, October and November are the most ideal months for longer bike tours or a cycling holiday.
